The Super-Duo

If this blog post was an episode from a sitcom, it would be titled:

Lorirose Runs Off to Canada and Elopes With a Man She knew for 1 week!”

Ok, so maybe not.  Now back to my regularly scheduled post:

Rose and I joined a nice fitness center this weekend. We get to see our trainer on Tuesday, so we’re pretty excited about that! Rose is typically pretty active with her ice skating and cheerleading activities during the year, so it only seems like a good and healthy transition for her to learn how to use a fitness center.  We’re going to base our work-outs to be more athletic and healthy lifestyle, more than anything else. She needs the good habits now or it will be ten times more difficult for her to stay healthy later. My plan is to keep her exercise fun and simple. Mine will be a little more intense because I’m trying to attain more of an athletic build. Either way, joining the gym is good for us both!

My grandparents are in town until the first of week July and my mom will be in town on Thursday! Then, we head off to Victoria, Canada on Friday morning! So, we’ve been keeping busy, like usual. That being said, I just finished my last load of laundry. I’m going to bed! Hasta proximo tiempo!

Columbia Center – Awesome View of Seattle

Posted by: L. on: June 18, 2008

Seattle is such an awesome place. Recently, I went to the Columbia Center with a buddy of mine. The images I took are just cellphone pictures, but still amazing. The experience and view definitely exceeds the photos. The view was beautiful and overwhelming! If you look at the photograph with Quest Stadium; directly across from the stadium’s parking lot, proudly stands Seattle’s coolest start-up, Visible Technologies!

Audrey Hepburn and AC/DC Commercial Remix

Posted by: L. on: June 17, 2008

The Gap did a cool remake of a clip from Audrey Hepburn’s film, Funny Face. I love that movie! Rosie has the song, “Funny Face,” memorized. In college, I was taking a photography class. There were a couple times I had to bring her with me, so she would watch Funny Face, with her earphones and portable DVD player. It was cute to listen to her sing the song. She likes watching Fred Estaire and Audrey Hepburn sing and dance, almost as much I enjoy it. Though, Roman Holiday and Breakfast at Tiffany’s will always be my top favorites, over any other movie, regardless if Audrey Hepburn is the star or not. I was cracking up yesterday because the final Jeopardy answer related to a quote from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Of course, I knew that Truman Capote was the author. Go figure that my liberal arts degree and love of Audrey would become useful in a game of Jeopardy.

Audrey Hepburn – Style Icon

My mom always told me, it doesn’t matter what you wear, rather it is how you carry yourself. I’ve always been a big fan of Audrey Hepburn’s style. Her ’50s beatnik-influenced clothes were the perfect compliment to her rebellious character in Funny Face. The detail and craftsmanship of her Givenchy gowns in Sabrina, were the perfect fantasy for Audrey’s character transformation from girl over the garage to elegant lady. Though her clothes were beautiful and fashionable in her films, then and now; she was never outshadowed by her clothes.Audrey Hepburn - Style Icon

The Premier Seattle Tour Guide – Me

Posted by: L. on: May 30, 2008

My dear friend Tabitha visited during Memorial Day Weekend! She is a law student at the University of Pittsburgh. She is a wicked smart lady and the  best friend a girl could have, without a doubt! We’ve been friends since college! I met her around the same time I met Kimmie in our Spanish classes! Tabs and Kimmie have been like family to me for the past four years. Anyhow, I am super happy she came to visit! She loves Washington and Seattle. She commented on how beautiful it is here. Thankfully, she visited when the weather was being cooperative! The Memorial Weekend was gorgeous and perfect for walking around Seattle. I took her to Pioneer Square where we ate sushi and we then walked to the Seattle Center. Folklife happened to be going on at the same time, so she got to see the fun and diverse side of Seattle! Her last day in Seattle, I took her to Gas Works! The view of Seattle was amazing! Anyway, I can’t wait for her to visit again! Kimmie wants to visit next! I wish she could’ve been here as well! It would have been a nice reunion!

I can’t escape the computer. I am doing a little online research. My eyes hurt. I am always on the computer and I am always reading.  I like this Blog, “What SEO isn’t.”

And FYI, I am a  Spartan! LOL! Just a tired Spartan at the moment.

Best, So-so and Worst Pedicures

Posted by: L. on: May 11, 2008

This isn’t a “beauty care guide.” It doesn’t really fall under “health care guides” or any of the like. This entire post is completely based on my own opinion and experiences. I also wanted to try a couple things I had learned recently, in regards to writing for search.  Other than that, I really did visit those establishments to receive one of my favorite indulgences: pedicures!

So this might be like comparing apples and oranges, but I’m just going to mention what I like and dislike about these Nail Salons/Spas. The entire concept of a pedicure seems like such an odd and useless service for women to indulge in, I mean really, who cares if your toenails are painted or not? I also have to say, I feel bad for those people who give those services. Let’s face it, some people have gross feet! Now, as for me, I have pretty feet.  Biased? Maybe.  The whole reason I started getting pedicures in the first place, was because I didn’t like my feet. When I was younger, I was teased for having big feet. I use to be pretty self-conscious about my feet for the longest t time. So, a few years ago, I reasoned with myself that if I painted my toenails pink, they would be prettier. Ever since, I’ve always had my toenails painted pink, sometimes different shades of pink and once in a blue moon, I’ve even gone red! What a rebel, right?

So, getting to my point, women don’t get pedicures just to change the color of their toenails. If that were the sole reason, it would be far cheaper to spend the five bucks on the bottle of nail polish and diy. The whole joy in the pedicures is two-fold, the experience of being indulged in a pedicure and the end results of enjoying pretty feet. The experience itself is relaxing and a great way to unwind. Everything from the foot soak to the salt scrub to the foot massage and more, make the pedicure experience a “needed” luxury. Everyone needs to unwind and be a little self-indulgent, from time to time. I absolutely love the foot rubs and parafin dips. The pumice stone, well, I’m actually pretty ticklish, so every time the nail tech sloughs my feet with that darned thing, I end up giggling like a little girl.

I have had so many pedicures, hard to remember all the places I’ve been. Clearly, pedicures are one of my favorite indulgences. If you are going to get a pedicure and it’s your first time, I suggest going to a nail salon within a spa. The nail salons within the spa setting (like  Gene Juarez) generally have a better grasp about training their employees to focus on giving their clients an amazing experience and not just a new color on their toenails. Anyhow, so obviously, I love pedicures!

Read on for my opinion on different places providing pedicure services.

Gene Juarez in Bellevue, WA: Grade – A +

I’ve been a few times and they are consistently awesome. I enjoy the atmosphere. I love the leg and foot rubs.  The nail technicians are not overly-chatty, they are perfectionists and detail oriented. They make sure you are comfortable and relaxed.

Mandalay Bay Day Spa in Las Vegas, NV: Grade – A +

Jen took me to the spa for a pedicure at the Mandalay Bay during a trip to Vegas. Yowser, everything was perfect. Not much to add to that. Jen has always had exquisite taste. It was expensive, but no more than any other spa pedicure. The bonuses were worth the price. When you get a spa pedicure (or any spa service), they give you access to their beautiful spa hot tub and sauna. Their spa was other-worldly and gorgeous. It’s a full service, beautiful environment and very relaxing. Jen and I fell asleep in the relaxing environment.

Tacoma Women’s Fitness Day Spa in Tacoma, WA: Grade – C

Okay, so I was looking for a place to take my aunt and myself for mother’s day. I should’ve gone with what I already know, but I like to explore and see what’s out there. I found this place through SpaFinder.com. I made an appointment for myself and my aunt to get a swedish massage and a spa pedicure for mother’s day. The facilities were subpar and still in progress. It looked like a new business. The customer service was good. They were lacking in all of the luxurious spa equipment, but they made up for it in good customer service. I probably won’t go back because I think that for the amount I paid, I could get better overall, elsewhere. But they have good potential.

Safari Nails in Auburn, WA: Grade – F

Safari Nails in Auburn, WA (Lakeland) is probably the worst place I’ve ever been. The customer service was awful and that pretty much kills it for me. That is the most important aspect of any service oriented company. I will never go back. I did give them a second and third chance to prove themselves, but each time they failed to deliver.
